Catherine is a Multi Disciplinary Artist based in Sullivan County, Upstate New York.
Born in County Durham, England. She received a BH Honors from the London College of Communication, Higher National Diploma in Design Communications from Suffolk College and OND in Graphic Design at Durham New College.
Growing up in the North East of England in the 70’s & 80’s she witnessed a dynamic and schizophrenic contrast, of overwhelming natural beauty and violent culture. A place struggling economically with violent and aggressive overtones; all set against an overwhelmingly beautiful rural backdrop. Catherine combines her astute observations of nature and human psyche and folds them into abstractions in order to turn the mundane and discomfort of existence into escapist imagery. She creates things of beauty and irony through mixed media, drawing on natural elements, printing techniques and abstract painting & mark making.
Her work generates a surreal visual that maintains a naive optimism, while contrasting the influence of rural landscapes with decades of city living.
Currently, Catherine’s work has been seen in Architectural Digest, she has shown as part of a collective show at the 2018 Wassaic Project.
