Josh is an educator and artist based in the Finger Lakes area of New York State. He enjoys all art methods and techniques associated with both two and three dimensional work, which he challenges his students with in the art room, at school. He received his BFA from Syracuse University, and MS in Art Education from Syracuse University as well. He has been teaching art to children for 17 years.
In recent years, Josh has been experimenting with watercolor, pen and ink to create images that are supported by a meaningful backstory. It is this meaning that helps to fuel his interest as he creates. He also believes this illustrative style invites viewers to apply their own meaning to each work, which allows for fascinating conversations.
“As an art teacher, my students are constantly inspiring me with their exciting, unique ideas. When a child creates art, they can spend 20 minutes creating it, and 30 minutes explaining it- it is this explanation, or story, that is a true inspiration.”
All pieces in this collection represent places, spaces, and objects that belong to a personal story.
I believe the most effective illustration encourages the viewer to create a story in their own mind, free
from the intent of the artist. It is this instance where the viewer becomes the writer- the story creator
who, in a single instant, may devise a meaning from an image that inspires them.
