Kaitlyn Danielson

is a photographic artist based in Narrowsburg, New York. She holds a BFA in Photography & Video from the School of Visual Arts.
Her practice is rooted in antiquated photographic processes, and her interest lies in
expanding the boundaries of these methods both technically and conceptually. Merging historical processes with modern technologies, she explores the monumental gap between the photographic past and present.
Kaitlyn's artwork has been exhibited throughout the United States and featured on platforms such as Musee' Magazine and Lenscratch.

Leslie LeFranc

is a farmer-florist, growing and foraging native and cultivar flowers on the rolling farmland of the Upper Delaware River Highlands.
Her career as a graphic designer, before turning to floriculture, informs her floral aesthetic, where she is most interested in the disparate tension that results from combining and arranging the simplest wildflowers with highly cultivated cut flowers.
Most recently, her editorial floral work has been featured in Edible Wedding and Edible Hudson magazines.

“Pressed in Light: Flora of the Catskills” is a collaborative art project between Leslie LeFranc and Kaitlyn Danielson.

LeFranc, a florist, collects local botanical specimens by foraging and personal cultivation. To maintain the natural movement and integrity of each plant, she carefully places them in a handmade press, where they lay to rest for months to years at a time.

Working together with Danielson, a photographer, the duo then imprints these delicate specimens on photographic paper using the lumen print process. Both fresh and dried flora are placed on gelatin silver photo paper and directly exposed to sunlight, mimicking the photosynthetic process. The sunlight and plant specimens create a reaction in the paper, leaving a ghostly image that is then immortalized in the darkroom.

Highlighting the simple yet profound beauty of local plant life, LeFranc and Danielson hope to spark awe of the natural world and the responsibility we have in protecting it.
